Jorg Bergmeister will start on pole for the next Rolex 24 at Daytona, starting tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., on the celeb Floridan Speedway.
Bergmeister laid down a Daytona Prototype track qualifying record lap of 1:40.099 (128.033 mph) on his very last attempt during the 15-minute session.
"I went for it. I risked everything, and it worked out perfectly. I knew we have a great car and a great engine, but I was really surprised to win the pole - with the team running the DP for the first time," the driver said.
Max Angelelli, Scott Pruett, Ryan Dalziel and Scott Dixon completed the DP top-5 of this important qualifying session. Mainwhile, Jimmie Johnson's No. 99 team will be strating from 10th position tomorrow.
In GT, Andy Lally had been awarded the pole position until a technical violation disallowed his time. His teammate Dominik Farnbacher was therefore attributed the pole with a lap of 1:48.781 (117.815 mph) in the No. 66 Porsche 911 GT3.
Jordan Taylor, Craig Stanton, Nick Tandy and Shane Lewis complete the GT top-5. Quebecker Jean-François Dumoulin qualified 26th of the GT cars, 42nd overall. He suffered from gas injection problems.
