Volkswagen AG President, Martin Winterkorn, and Volkswagen of America President and CEO, Stefan Jacoby, were excited to be in Detroit to unveil this all-new luxury model that proves to be more affordable than... a Phaeton.
The VW Coupe is inspired by the Acura Vigor of the early '90s and the current Mercedes-Benz CLS. It borrows from the former its coupe-like sedan profile and from the latter its deceptive rounded roofline that points to a sports coupe.

Much like its predecessors, this VW uses its nifty name and look to attract performance enthusiasts who also appreciate the convenience factor of a sedan.
Similar in size to the Mercedes CLS, the VW Coupe shares its platform and powertrains with the Passat, including the 2.0T and 3.6L V6. No diesel engine is in the cards for North America.
The car features powerful LED projector headlights. A 4MOTION all-wheel drive version will be available a few months after the Coupe hits showrooms at the end of this summer.
In other news, Volkswagen took advantage of the spotlight generated by the NAIAS to launch its new Jetta TDIs -- sedan and wagon. Their 2.0L common-rail engine, which delivers 140 horsepower and a whopping 235 lb-ft of torque, is pretty fuel-efficient, as evidenced by its 5.6L/100 km fuel economy rating (manual transmission).
