The new 2011 Compass makes its first auto show appearance in Detroit, and Jeep also announced that a 70th Anniversary Edition trim will be offered in every model range.

The Compass has been thoroughly revised and can now be considered as the Grand Cherokee’s little brother, thanks to the resemblance of their hood, front fenders, grille and headlights. The rear bumper has also been redesigned and a body-colour roof spoiler is now included.

The two available engines (2.0L and 2.4L) are the same as in the 2010 versions, but the CVT gearbox has been recalibrated for improved fuel economy. The SUV can now be equipped with Jeep’s Freedom-Drive II four-wheel drivetrain, giving it Trail Rated status; only the Patriot offered it up until now.

Apart from the revised exterior, the Compass also benefits from an upgraded cockpit with softer-touch materials and a new steering wheel that incorporates audio controls, hand-free phone connectivity and cruise control switches.

In addition, Jeep will offer 70th Anniversary Edition versions of its entire product line-up (Patriot, Compass, Liberty, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee). They will be on sale in the first quarter of 2011 and will offer three exterior colours: Bright Silver, Bright Black as well as exclusive Bronze Star. Each model will include features such as unique alloy wheels, olive leather seat accents and 70th Anniversary badging as well as other specific design elements.
