All-electric future
The next step in BYD’s marketing strategy, beyond the e6, is to produce and sell a pair of hybrid sedans: the compact F3DM and the midsize F6DM.
Mr. Li actually confirmed that his plan essentially rests on the marketing of electric vehicles. "We want to become pioneers in electric car development and be recognized as such. Anyway, these are the products consumers are asking for right now," he stated.
A network to grow
For the United States, the general manager of BYD hopes to grow a network of 500+ dealers located in "large urban areas." He has his work cut out for him. "We still don’t have any agreements with potential retailers, but there are lots of people interested," he claimed.
As a matter of fact, Mr. Li announced the upcoming start of small-scale distribution across America. "We’ll begin with a few retailers out on the West Coast and probably sell a couple of hundreds of units," he said.
BYD’s North American strategy includes both the U.S. and Canada. Thus, in the initial phase, a BYD dealership is expected to open in Vancouver. "Logically, this would be the first major city in Canada to offer a sales outlet. Then we would add Toronto and Montreal," concluded Mr. Li before revealing that he wants to establish an R&D center along with an assembly plant in America.
