The E-Class family is expanding this year with the arrival of a new convertible that will replace the defunct CLK.

Unlike the SLK and SL, the E-Class Cabriolet will rely on a folding cloth top, which takes under 20 seconds to open or close, and can even be operated while driving up to 40 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz has developed an air turbulence reduction system called AIRCAP. It basically consists of a wind deflector on the windscreen frame and a draught-stop between the two rear seats, which lifts airflow above the cockpit and reduces turbulence. The AIRSCARF head and neck heating system is also standard.

Seven engine choices will be available in the E-Class Cabriolet, including three diesels. However, North-American models will receive the Coupe's powertrain choices, a 268-hp V6 (E350) and a 382-hp V8 (E550).

The new convertible will be on sale in the coming weeks.
