Oh yes, my friends, 840 horsepower. 8-4-0. That’s the mind-boggling output generated by FCA’s new ultimate performance halo car, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, which was finally unveiled yesterday at the 2017 New York Auto Show following months of extreme anticipation.
Putting to shame even its 707-horsepower Hellcat sibling, the 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8 under the hood of the Demon—the most powerful production V8 in the world—also produces 770 lb-ft of torque, making it the most explosive and fastest muscle car of all time.
How fast? Ironically, too fast even for the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), which has officially banned the car from drag strips. It sprints from 0-60 mi/h (97 km/h) in just 2.3 seconds and completes the quarter mile in a blistering 9.65 seconds!
Here are some other records set by the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon:
- - Largest functional hood scoop of any production car (45.2 square inches)
- - Highest g-force acceleration of any production car (1.8 g)
- - First-ever front-wheel lift in production car (2.92 feet) as certified by Guinness World Records
- - First-ever factory-production car with front passenger seat and rear seat delete (can be optioned back for $1 each)

You should know that production of the limited-edition, single model year Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will begin this summer in Brampton, Ontario, with 3,000 units for the United States and 300 for Canada. Deliveries to Dodge/SRT dealers will begin in the fall.
Buyers will receive a customized Track Tech Owner’s Manuel as well as a Demon Crate filled with all sorts of performance parts, tools, and accessories. What’s more, they will receive one full-day session at Bob Bondurant School of High-performance Driving in Arizona.
