Speaking of adding quality to vehicles, for even more performance and efficiency the new V6 engine comes with a 3-stage Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) that uses the valves inside the intake manifold to produce the effect of three intake runner lengths. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) chooses between these options according to engine operating conditions to make a pulse of high intake pressure promptly accessible when the intake valve opens; thus creating a light supercharging effect resulting in more torque and power at all speeds.

The new engine also gets an updated 5-speed automatic transmission, replacing the 4-speed unit in the current car (shown). (Photo: Toyota)

The V6 equipped Camry will replace the current 4-speed transmission with a new 5-speed automatic gearbox as well, making the most of the additional output. The compact automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT) is grade-sensitive, monitoring driving conditions, load and operating temperature, speed, and throttle position to efficiently control gear selection and optimize shift points. When driving on inclines the transmission delays upshifts to maintain power while descending a lower gear will hold for engine braking purposes.

Expect to see the new models hitting Toyota dealerships without delay as they are fitted to 2003 model year Camrys.
