Hello everyone!

I’m back! Once again, it’ll be a pleasure to share my daily experiences throughout the DTM season with the readers of Auto123.com.

After the long winter break, a new championship finally kicked off on April 25th in Hockenheim. I finished second -- the highest position I’ve ever gotten at the start of a season since my debut in DTM (2005). Up until now, I had never enjoyed success in an opening round, either because of a mechanical problem or a racing incident.

This time, however, everything went according to plan and I’m thrilled to have earned these precious second-place points. There are only 10 races after all and even the slightest misstep can compromise one’s chances of securing the title.

But just because our team delivered a great performance in Hockenheim doesn’t mean history will repeat itself in Valencia, home of the next race. Audi won’t be denied again as the track is totally different and a lot less demanding on tires than Hockenheim. They likely won’t run into the same tire problems that plagued them during the first race.

Next week, I’ll be heading to my team’s (HWA Mercedes) headquarters near Stuttgart in order to be fully prepared for the upcoming round. We’ll analyze data from the collective tests run on the Spanish track in early April, and target areas for improvement to the car and my driving.

Then, on May 10th, I’ll fly to Berlin for a special event with my sponsor, Mercedes-Benz Bank. I probably won’t have much time to rest! Still, during my free time, I’ll keep training both physically and mentally. I have this habit of jogging around Strasbourg, France (where I live), about 2-3 times a week.

I also love to train in the mountains! Photo: archives Bruno Spengler

Also, I follow an intense conditioning program designed by my trainer/kinesiologist, including biking and muscle training. Each session lasts anywhere from 2 to three and a half hours. I like to play tennis and golf, too. The latter allows me to clear my head; I love it!

I try as much as I can to reply to all the fans who write to me through www.brunospengler.com. I even send signed photos on demand.

Finally, here’s my take on BMW’s likely return to the DTM series in 2012: this is excellent news for the series and especially the fans. Who knows? Maybe other manufacturers will follow suit in the future…

See you soon -- hopefully with good things to report!
