2010 Formula 3 Euroseries champion Edoardo Mortara, who just clinched his second F3 Macau GP win in-a-row, is rumoured to join the DTM championship next year. He spoke to auto123.com about this interest of his.
Mortara will soon have a test on an Audi A4 DTM, and is rumoured to replace Alexandre Premat in the Phoenix Team next year. The young Italian explained that nothing is decided yet.
"It will depend on the test, told Mortara to auto123.com, as other drivers will also be present alongside me, and people from Audi will look very closely at our performances. It will also depend on how many drivers will leave the team next season.
"My main problem is the money, and it begins to be quite difficult to move up to higher levels. So we have to look after other ways to move on, and it is a bit complicated.
"DTM is a very professional series, and it would be a great opportunity for a young driver like me to run a very competitive and very popular championship. Its future is also quite promising with BMW’s return, and maybe other constructors that could also join DTM in a near future.
"The Volkswagen group helped me a lot those last seasons, it was our third year together, and I would be very pleased to stay with them, possibly via the Audi team in DTM."
