Martin Tomczyk (Audi) captured victory on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring, Austria, third round of the 2011 DTM championship. Canadian Bruno Spengler (Mercedes) arrived home 4th after he started from 12th position on the grid.

It was the first success for a semi-private 2008-spec car since Jamie Green’s win at the Norisring in July 2010 at the Norisring (with his C Class Mercedes).

It was also a first ever win for team Phoenix. Martin Tomczyk who was forced to left the Audi works team Abt Sportline at the end of last season, enjoyed a sweet revenge and captured his first win since Barcelona in 2006.

Tomczyk, who started from pole position, had the race under control from the beginning to the end, and took win ahead of Ralf Schumacher’s C Class Mercedes, and Oliver Jarvis’ Audi A4.

Bruno Spengler had an impressive run in Spielberg. The Canadian driver, who started from 12th place on the grid, moved up to 8th on the first lap, then choose to stay out while most rival were making their first pit stops. He was up in fourth place when he pitted late.

Spengler remained 4th after his second stop, right behind Jarvis, but could not find a way pass the Englishman. Spengler remains first in the standings, but now Martin Tomczyk is second, only three points behind.

It was a bad week-end for Mattias Ekström. The Swede was forced to start from the last position on the grid after his accident while entering the pitlane in qualifying. Ekström was 16th when he lost a wheel after his first stop, which forced him to retire.
