Mattias Ekström (Audi) set the best performance in qualifying at the Nürburgring while championship leader Bruno Spengler (Mercedes) took 4th.

The chase for pole position in Q4, with only four cars remaining, was disrupted by the rain that appeared as Bruno Spengler was about to make his qualifying attempt.

But as the Canadian concluded his flying lap, the rain stopped and the track got dryer lap after lap, which helped the following drivers to move to the front of the starting grid.

Ekström took his first pole position of the season, which was also the second in the last six races -- Rockenfeller had set the fastest time at Zandvoort.

Ekström will share the first row with Mercedes driver Jamie Green, while Mike Rockenfeller and Bruno Spengler will start from the second row.

The best old-spec car driver was Edoardo Mortara, who will start from 5th on board of his Audi A4, just ahead of teammate Miguel Molina.

Martin Tomczyk was disappointed to take only 7th position while Timo Scheider (Audi) settled for 8th.

Mercedes drivers Gary Paffett and Ralf Schumacher had a tough session, with the 13th and 17th positions, respectively.
