Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) took his first DTM win at Zandvoort, while Bruno Spengler probably lost the first position after a misunderstanding with his team.

Canadian Bruno Spengler started from pole position and kept the advantage at the start, but he couldn’t pull away in front as Rockenfeller’s Audi, who overtook Jamie Green’s C-Class at the first corner, was right behind him.

The Canadian driver lost the lead after a misunderstanding with his team during the first pit stop, when he stayed on track as he was expected to stop. When Spengler came out of the pits after he finally stopped, he was behind Rockenfeller, who had stopped earlier in the race. This was the classification for both drivers until the end.

Martin Tomczyk (Audi) took the third podium spot after he overtook Jamie Green at the end of the race. The Brit, who started from 2nd place on the grid, crossed the line ahead of Timo Scheider’s Audi.

Edoardo Mortara (Audi) was the best rookie in Zandvoort, as the reigning F3 Euroseries champion classified 6th aboard his Audi A4 ahead of Maro Engel (Mercedes) clinched last point for his 8th place, after he started from 16th position at the start.

Gary Paffett (Mercedes), Oliver Jarvis (Audi) and Ralf Schumacher (Mercedes) took 9th, 10th and 11th positions, and did not score any point.

Bruno Spengler, who won the opening round in Hockenheim, still leads the provisional classification ahead of Mike Rockenfeller and Martin Tomczyk.

"Just before the first pit stop, I heard the team order, but not completely on the radio, and a bit too late," Bruno Spengler explained to Auto123.com.

"I preferred to stay on track. That’s why I lost time, because Rockenfeller was already on fresh tires for several laps, and I did one more lap with my old tires. Before that, I had a good start, and my first stint was good, then Rockenfeller was quicker in the second stint. I was a bit disappointed just after the race, but second position is still a very good performance, that’s my first podium finish in Zandvoort. We were quicker in race in Hockenheim, today was Audi’s turn, that’s racing..."
