Paul di Resta and his AMG Mercedes C-Class set the fastest time in qualifying at Brands Hatch Saturday, taking the pole from championship leader Bruno Spengler, on Mercedes-Benz, by 0.052 seconds only.
The British driver was thrilled to get the starting spot “at home”, he who admit he is “competing for the championship”. He is currently third in the standings behind Canadian Spengler and Gary Paffett. Nine points separates the top-three after six of 11 races.
Timo Scheider was the best-placed Audi in third with his A4 DTM car. He got confirmation yesterday that he will be allowed to keep his third place finish in the last round in Zandvoort.
Ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher, also on an AMG Mercedes C-Class, was also very pleased with his qualifying performance with a fourth place on the grid. “That was all that I could achieve today. I am very happy with the result,” he said.
Garry Paffett (AMG Mercedes C-Class), two-times champion Mattias Ekström (Audi A4 DTM), Olivier Jarvis (Audi A4 DTM), Miguel Molina (Audi A4 DTM), Jamie Green (AMG Mercedes C-Class) and Martin Tomczyk (Audi A4 DTM) completed the top-10.
