Ralf Schumacher (C Class Mercedes) clinched his first pole position in DTM at the Norisring, just ahead his team mate, Canadian Bruno Spengler, championship leader.

The german driver put a strong and unexpected performance in today’s qualifying session, considering that his DTM results since his debuts in 2008 were very disappointing so far.

Beside him, Bruno Spengler confirms his optimal performance level. The young canadian, who stands first in provisional classification after two second positions and a win (at the Lausitzring), will start from inside row 1 tomorrow (the pole position is on the outside).

The Norisring is one of Spengler’s favorite circuits : he took his first DTM win on this circuit in 2006, and won again in 2007. He secured second place in 2008 and 2009.

2009 Norisring winner Jamie Green will start from row 2 of the grid aboard his 2008-spec C Class Mercedes, beside Martin Tomczyck’s Audi A4. Mercedes drivers Paul Di Resta and Gary Paffett, who stand 2nd and 3rd at provisional classification, took 8th and 7th best performance respectively.

Tomorrow’s race is expected to be tough for the drivers, who will run 82 laps on this small circuit (2.2 km) in the streets of Nuremberg. The temperatures will be still high on Sunday, about 35°C.

“I made a small mistake in the very last corner of my qualifying lap in Q4 which cost me a little, told Bruno Spengler to auto123.com, but I am still happy with 2nd,, considering that I will start from outside row 1, which is not a bad thing. The car was powerful all the day, already on Saturday morning with the race set up. Tomorrow, I expect a very tough race, very long and difficult physically. High temperatures are also expected, with some risks of storms… “
