The championship battle for the DTM Series title is heating up as Audi and Mercedes-Benz are entering the last stretch of the season, beginning in Barcelona, with each manufacturer having two drivers within 10 points of the lead.
Audi is now sitting on top with their ace Timo Scheider as the series leader with 54 points, but his place is still reachable by at least three other drivers. AMG Mercedes' Jamie Green is just 9 points adrift as well as his teammate Paul di Resta, who sits third because of Green's two wins.
The 2007 DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom is still pretty much in contention with 44 points and he has shown all season long that he was a major contender with two wins.
But let's not forget Mercedes-Benz Bruno Spengler and Audi's Martin Tomczyk who could put themselves in the middle of the battle as both drivers have had a lot of success in the past on the Spanish circuit.
Since 2007, Spengler holds the lap record on the Catalunya circuit and he finished second last year, having lost the race only because of a drive-thru penalty while Tomczyk has won there in 2006.
