From the DTM Championship
Audi and Mercedes-Benz will share the front row of the grid for the eighth DTM season round at the Circuit de Catalunya, with Tom Kristensen and Paul di Resta.
The best starting position for the race at the 2.977 kilometres long track near the Spanish metropolis of Barcelona was claimed by Tom Kristensen (Audi), who secured himself his second pole of the season.
With the Audi A4 DTM, the Dane set the fastest lap time of 1.06.825 minutes. Lining up alongside him on the front row will be Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz). The Scot was 0.064 seconds short of Kristensen’s fastest time.
Martin Tomczyk (Audi) will be starting from third place for Sunday’s race. Next to the German will be another Mercedes-Benz driver, namely Bruno Spengler. Points’ leader and defending champion Timo Scheider (Audi) qualified sixth. Gary Paffett will start ahead of him in fifth place.
As Mercedes-Benz driver Bruno Spengler got stuck with his car on the cooling down lap after the final session of the DTM qualifying at Barcelona, the Canadian’s AMG Mercedes C-Class was examined by the scrutineers.
The remaining amount of fuel wasn’t conform with the regulations. This was penalised by the stewards of the meeting, who dropped Spengler on the starting grid. On Sunday at 14.00 h, the 26-year old will be starting from eighth instead of fourth place.
