Timo Scheider (Audi) won the penultimate round of the DTM championship presented in Adria, Italy. Bruno Spengler (Mercedes) took third place, and took the championship lead back before the final round in Shanghai.

The 2008 and 2009 DTM champion took his first season win – which was only the second for Audi this year, thanks to an optimal pit stop strategy. The german driver started from 15th position on the grid, and made a great catch up in the race. He had his first pit stop as late as he could, and when he went back on track after his second stop, with ten minutes to go, he remained in first position.

Behind Scheider, Mercedes drivers Gary Paffett and Bruno Spengler took 2nd and 3rd. Paffett started from pole position, but Spengler took the lead at the first corner. Paffett overtook his teammate after his second stop, but both men were beaten by Timo Scheider at the end of the race.

Paul Di Resta (Mercedes) had a very difficult day in Adria. The Scot had been spun around by Maro Engel’s Mercedes in the first lap, but his team could fix the back of his car during the red flag’s interruption for Alexandre Premat’s accident.

Six laps from the end, Di Resta was hit by Miguel Molina (Audi). Again, Di Resta was able to come back on track but he finished out of the point zone when Ekström passed him for 8th with two laps to go.

Alexandre Premat (Audi) had a very bad crash at the end of the first lap, when his car had a contact with Maro Engel’s Mercedes at very high speed in the start-finish line. Premat’s Audi hit the wall hard, and rolled several times. Premat escaped unhurt from his car.

Thanks to this third place finish, Bruno Spengler is now back in the lead, three points ahead of Paul Di Resta before the last round of the DTM championship, presented on November, 28th in Shanghai. Gary Paffett stands nine points behind the Canadian driver, and is still, mathematically,  still in the championship race.
