Tom Kristensen, who replaces Mike Rockenfeller in the Audi quad for the Lausitzring DTM race, set a great performance by taking first position at the end of the first free practice session.
The Dane, who was called to replace the badly shaken Mike Rockenfeller after his crash at Le Mans proved that he didn’t forget how to drive a DTM car as he ran in the German touring car championship from 2004 to 2009.
Kristensen captured the best performance on Friday ahead of Martin Tomczyk’s 2008-spec Audi A4.
Tomczyk, who stands second in the point standings after his win at Spielberg, is followed by Timo Scheider, and Christian Vietoris who drives a 2008-spec C Class Mercedes.
Meanwhile, that was a tough day for the Mercedes HWA drivers. Their best placed driver was Gary Paffett (13th) ahead of teammates Bruno Spengler and Jamie Green, while Ralf Schumacher took the 17th place.
Championship leader, Canadian Bruno Spengler, who was caught in traffic in his final run on new tires, took the win at Lausitzring one year ago.
