Following his terrible crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Mike Rockenfeller will sit out the fourth round of the DTM held this weekend at the Lausitzring in Germany. He will be replaced by veteran Tom Kristensen.

Although Rockenfeller escaped unhurt from the horrifying crash at Le Mans aboard his Audi R18 LMP1 prototype, the Audi Team Abt has decided to give him a break for the following weeks.

The German won’t contest the fourth of the DTM at the Lausitzring, but he will also miss the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring the following weekend.

Rockenfeller, who won the Zandvoort race, stands third in the provisional standings.

Forty-three year-old Tom Kristensen will make his return to the DTM championship as a replacement for Rockenfeller. Kristensen competed in the DTM from 2004 to 2009, winning four races, and finishing third in championship in both 2005 and 2006 season.

In 2007, Kristensen missed a few races following a huge crash during the opening round in Hockenheim.
