Martin Tomczyk (Audi) wins the 7th round of the DTM championship presented at Brands Hatch, and regains championship lead while title rival Bruno Spengler (Mercedes) secures only 7th position.
The race was ran on very wet conditions from start to finish. Mike Rockenfeller, who clinched the pole position for the first time of his career, was passed by team mate Mattias Ekström, tand hen Martin Tomczyk. He eventually dropped down to sixth after Ralf Schumacher’s Mercedes hit him in the last part of the race.
Audi was clearly dominant at Brands Hatch. Tomczyk had no rival in England, and he was able to take it easy at the front, although he had a little off in the beginning of the race.
Furthermore, the podium was 100% Audi, as Ekström took second ahead of rookie driver Edoardo Mortaro, also impressive in those conditions. Gary Paffett was the best Mercedes driver in 4th, ahead of Ralf Schumacher 5th.
Meanwhile, the week-end was tough for Bruno Spengler, who had a seven point lead before the race, and now stands second, one point behind Tomczyk.
The Canadian, who started from 8th position on the grid (because of a two-position penalty after his team fitted the wrong tires on his car during Saturday morning practice session), hardly showed any pace, and could only manage 7th position at the checkered flag.
