I love blogs, where I can say what I really think about a product. On moto123.com, I have to remain objective, clinical, and professional. The job of motorcycle journalists, or pencil pushers, as I like to call them, is to test bikes, state the facts, compare the models of a given segment, emit an opinion and share impressions in the clearest, most precise way possible, based on their experience. The idea is to help the public make an informed decision when purchasing a new model.

It’s ok to say what you think about a particular bike’s design or compare it to other models in the class. But I believe motorcycle journalists should never categorically describe a machine as ugly or say they wouldn’t be caught dead riding it. It’s up to the readers to decide, once they’ve weighed the pros and cons. We must never forget that people all have different tastes.

Although they may swear by a certain brand, journalists should always be objective in the articles they publish, in magazines or on the web. Credibility is a lot harder to win than to lose.

But this is a blog. So I have a bit of leeway, right?

I won’t go lightly on a certain Italian manufacturer that launched a string of new models this year, whose lines and on-board electronics drive me crazy – with lust. I’m talking about Ducati and the gorgeous Superbike 848 Corse or the seductive Streetfighter 848, both equipped with the famous 8-setting DTC system, an industry first for bikes in this price range.

As if that weren’t enough, Ducati had the balls to wait until everyone had deployed their latest electronic artillery, like the Kawasaki ZX-10R, BMW S1000RR and Yamaha R1 with their sophisticated electronic riding aids. Ducati then nonchalantly unveiled the new 1199 S Panigale superbike, which, to me, is nothing less than the most breathtaking, modern and technologically advanced thing ever to grace two wheels. But, again, there’s no accounting for taste.

Ain’t blogs great?
