AF Waltrip Racing, the race team formed by the alliance of AF Corse and NASCAR's Michael Waltrip Racing, has announced that Brian Vickers would replace Michael Waltrip on the team's driver roster for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Because of his previous commitments to NASCAR and television Waltrip, will also be replaced by Vickers at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Belgian round, held May 5th at Spa-Francorchamps.
Vickers, a part-time Sprint Cup driver for Michael Waltrip Racing, has impressed in the few races he's done so far with team. The American says he is looking forward to the challenges of international racing.
"Running at Spa is pretty cool. It’s such a historic place, and the high speed Eau Rouge corner sure gets your attention. It will be a challenge in the race," he said.
"Le Mans will be one of the highlights of my career. This is an opportunity I never thought I would have. I can’t wait to get there and soak up the atmosphere. I’ve raced a lot of places but Le Mans will be special."
