In early May, we reported that Best Buy was toying with the idea of selling EVs and had initiated discussions with several companies to that effect. It now looks like that probably won’t be happening.

The electronics retailer, who distributes Brammo electric scooters across the United States, announced this week it would be pulling out of 27 markets and that from now on, 250 of the 1,101 American points of sale would offer them only in the summer.

Why? A huge barrier has gone up between the retailer and consumers, who are worried about how they’ll recharge their machine once they’ve purchased it.

When asked about the future of EVs at Best Buy following this decision, spokesperson Kelly Groehler told BNET that her employer wasn’t planning on going ahead with the project.

It now looks like senior exec Chad Bell’s statements weren’t entirely true, and that logic has prevailed over the company’s ambition.

Would you really be willing to buy and EV from a superstore if you could?
