Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button put their Mercedes-powered Brawn BGP001 ahead of the field Friday morning during the first practice session of the Grand Prix of Singapore.
After FIA penalties and departing sponsors, the next chapter in the crash-gate saga for Renault was a cruel dose of irony, as Romain Grosjean crashed during the initial Friday evening practice session for the Singapore grand prix.
In the opening light/dark session one year after Nelson Piquet's deliberate crash, once again the occupant of the second French car crashed on the exit of turn 17 -- dubbed by some in the paddock as 'Piquet Corner' and visited by many for posterity.
This time, Grosjean's accident was not on purpose but simply the result of the extremely low-grip street surface, but he did have to dismount his damaged car before a lengthy delay, because a recovery crane is still not located at the left hander.
