Two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso put his Renault R29 on top the charts Friday afternoon when he set the fastest time of the second free practice session of the Grand Prix of Brazil.

The Spaniard worked on his race set-up for most of the session, setting relatively slow times, but emerged quickest near the end of the session when he managed to put his three best sector times together.

Rubens Barrichello, Brawn GP

Swiss Sébastien Buemi, driving a humble Toro Rosso, held the best time in the afternoon until Alonso beat him. Buemi was just .043 second slower than the Renault driver at the end of the day.

Rubens Barrichello put his Brawn-Mercedes in 3rd place ahead of mark Webber (quickest this morning in his Renault-powered Red Bull), Jenson Button (Brawn GP), Jarno Trulli (Toyota) and Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull).

Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton (McLaren-Mercedes) was 10th while his teammate, Heikko Kovalainen was a lowly 17th.

It was a disastrous day for Ferrari with Kimi Raikonen in 18th place and Giancarlo Fisichella 20th and last, having abandoned his Ferrari with apparent technical problems at the end of the pit lane.
