F1 Brazil: Lewis Hamilton sets fastest time of the day in Sao Paulo (+photos)

British driver Lewis Hamilton of the McLaren-Mercedes team set the fastest time of the two free practice sessions held at Interlagos for the Grand Prix of Brazil, final round of the 2011 F1 World Championship.

The teams had three types of Pirelli tires to test today ; the experimental Hard for next year and the Medium and Soft which are the choices for the rest of the meeting.

Mark Webber planted his Red Bull RB7 in first place during the morning session. The Australian beat the McLarens of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. Webber's teammate Sebastian Vettel finished in fourth place.

Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso ranked fifth and sixth in their Ferraris. The Spaniard stopped on the circuit after his engine failed.

In the afternoon, Hamilton set the fastest time of the day. Running on the soft compound, Michael Schumacher put his Mercedes in first place at one point, but Hamilton managed to produce a faster lap to regain first place.
