News agency Reuters has issued a news today October 7 that the Canadian Grand Prix was not a round of the 2009 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

The news mentions that the Canadian Grand Prix has been dropped from the 2009 Formula 1 calendar with the season remaining at 18 races.

The International Automobile Federation issued a revised 2009 calendar with Turkey moving from August to June to allow a summer break for the teams.

There will be no North American round after the US Grand Prix at Indianapolis was dropped this year.

Another significant development to come from the Extraordinary meeting is to allow "teams to equalise engine performance across the field for 2009, pending the introduction of cost-saving measures from 2010".

FIA president Max Mosley was also given authority to negotiate with the F1 teams' alliance FOTA and introduce "radical measures to achieve a substantial reduction of costs in the championship from 2010".

The organizers of the Canadian GP have not officially commented the news, indicating that they must first speak with representatives of the Formula One Management and the FIA.
