Renault's Fernando Alonso set today, Monday the fastest lap time around the Spanish circuit of Jerez of the last test session leading to the 2009 Formula 1 season.
Alonso led Brawn GP's Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button. Button's BGP001 suffered from a gearbox problem in the afternoon.
Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton and team McLaren were far behind again, in 4th place (out of 5 drivers) and 1.1 second slower than Alonso.
Nico Rosberg, driving the Williams-Toyota, was 6th and slowest of the group.
