ALAIN PROST, WILLIAMS, 1993
Ironically, it was Alain Prost who took Nigel Mansell's place in 1993, driving a car that was still clearly superior. Without flourish, Prost easily clinched his fourth world title. But he learned during the season, that Frank Williams was negotiating with his sworn enemy, Ayrton Senna. At the end of the season, Prost left Williams and entered retirement, before founding his own F1 team.
DAMON HILL, WILLIAMS, 1996
Damon Hill, son of Graham Hill, lead a ferocious battle against a certain Michael Schumacher and his own teammate, a young Jacques Villeneuve, throughout the 1996 season. Hill won the title in the end, but negotiations with Frank Williams for a new contract were difficult. Hill demanded a significant pay raise. The British driver also received a seductive offer from Tom Walkinshaw at Arrows. He signed the deal, and once again a reigning world champion left the team that gave him the opportunity to make his dream come true.
