Flavio Briatore has denied reports he is close to working with F1's new official tyre supplier Pirelli. In the wake of the crashgate scandal, it has been rumoured the ousted former Renault boss is set to return to the sport on the promotional side alongside Bernie Ecclestone.

Virgin team boss John Booth has played down reports he is considering replacing Lucas di Grassi for the 2011 season. "Timo (Glock) will be with us next year, as stipulated in his contract. With Lucas we have an option and it looks good. Jerome d’Ambrosio is just giving as a hand at the moment because he has a super license," he said.

The new GP2 champion, Pastor Maldonado is now close to switching to F1 for 2011. He senses a deal is close with Sauber, amid reports his manager Nicolas Todt is looking to buy the team. "Our government have invested six years in me to get to F1 and I am ready for the challenge," said Maldonado who has close ties to the Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

Michael Schumacher's spokeswoman has played down rumours the seven time world champion is reconsidering his decision to return to formula one. Sabine Kehm says: "Michael has no plans to quit at the end of the year. It is a three year project to build a winning team and he is in the middle of the process.”

In the meanwhile, his team boss Ross Brawn thinks that his return to full competitiveness next year depends in part on Pirelli as the seven time world champion struggles in 2010 with the performance of Bridgestone's tyre.
