This was Jenson’s first day with the McLaren MP4-26 and he set the third time. After another lunchtime strip-down, the engineers began a more concerted programme of running in the afternoon – albeit one punctuated by several lengthy red-flag stoppages. At the end of the day, the team evaluated a number of further set-up changes.
Jaime Alguersuari was fourth for Toro Rosso. The Spaniard took over from Daniel Ricciardo in the cockpit of the STR6. The team worked through a programme, which featured three key elements; tire evaluation, weight distribution and car set-up work.
Mark Webber set the 5th time of the day. The Red Bull Racing team continued to evaluate the new Pirelli tires, as well as testing some new aerodynamic components and development parts. It was a productive day; we concentrated on long runs and completed the test programme.
Adrian Sutil (Force India-Mercedes) followed in 6th place, followed by Sergio Perez (Sauber-Ferrari), Timo Glock (Virgin Racing) and Vitaly Petrov in the Lotus Renault GP R31.
