The Zeltweg circuit is actually now known as the Red Bull Ring, after energy drink mogul Dietrich Mateschitz rebuilt the former Austrian grand prix venue that is reopening next week.

"I see no reason why formula one shouldn't go back to Austria," Michael Schumacher, speaking in Turkey, told the APA news agency.

Dietrich Mateschitz, however, despite achieving F1 homologation, rates the chances of a grand prix contract for his Austrian circuit at "more than minor".

Michael Schumacher has tipped Ferrari to emerge quickly from its current slump.

The German scooped five of his seven world championships between 2000 and 2004 with the Maranello based team. He said Mercedes' 2011 recovery after a difficult start is proof that F1's Italian giant is not too far behind.

"I'm not convinced their problems are as serious as they seem. And as we have taken a big step forward after Malaysia, they can do the same. They have the ability and the people," Michael Schumacher is quoted by the Spanish press.

He said the fact Ferrari has not won a drivers' title since 2007 is "an exception" rather than a new trend for the team's post-glory era.
