Auto123.com contacted long-time friend Peter Windsor to have some additional information the creation of the US-based Formula 1 team for next year.

Peter first mentioned that "While we are still far from completing the task of building a US based Formula 1 team, we are very encouraged by the many positive responses."

"We are planning to announce the team officially on Speed TV on February 24, give or take a day or two. At that point we will be explaining our thinking and plans for building the F1 team.

Peter Windsor added: "I'm sure there are a lot of F1 fans out there who miss F1 in Canada and the United States. Hopefully, we can give them something else to look forward to."

On the other hand, Ken Anderson, an American engineer involved with NASCAR and Indycar and also a F1 technical director of the 80s and partner of Peter Windsor, told the Charlotte Observer that "95 per cent" of the unofficial information carried by websites in recent days was correct.

Anderson also said USF1 is close to signing its first driver for 2010, hinting that he is an American who is currently racing in a junior open-wheeler series in Europe.

"All of the teams' sponsors want a presence here and American companies are going global," he said.

He said a US based team, despite every other F1 outfit being headquartered in Europe, is possible because "90 percent of the technology that exists in F1 comes from the US anyway".
