Lotus Renault GP driver Vitaly Petrov has made clear is ambitions to stay with his current outfit, and race alongside Kimi Raikkonen in 2012.
"I hope the team takes the right decision and we wait a few days more. I hope to stay with the same team because I love very much this team," Petrov said in an interview with the official Race of Champions website. "I like the people, working with the mechanics and engineers, so it feels like a family. They gave me the opportunity to drive."
After a tough rookie-season with team in 2010, the first ever Russian-driver showed some signs of improvement in 2011. As he reached the top of his learning curve?
"I learn very much [from 2011] – and I will never learn so much, even in the future, because we have so many problems," he admitted himself. "I know this year was not a good example for my side, but sorry, I am still a rookie."
Talks of Petrov being on the move are omni-present since his public outburst against the team and the fact he confirmed he had 'other' options for next year. But he is adamant racing against returning 2007 world champion Raikkonen will boost his performances.
"I can do the third season much, much better [...]. I watch a lot of videos of him [Raikkonen], from previous years, and we are very close nationality [wise] so I hope I can stay together with him for next year."
