Australian Mark Webber scored his maiden win of the season, finishing first in the Grand Prix of Brazil on Sunday, final round of this year's Formula 1 season.
This season has been Red Bull’s year, but the spoils for the most part have been claimed by Sebastian Vettel. Webber, lacking both form and fortune, has been pushed firmly into the shadows by his younger teammate, who earned 15 poles and 11 victories in his second successive championship-winning season.
However, all that changed on Sunday in Sao Paulo, Brazil when Vettel - hamstrung by a failing gearbox - was forced to settle for second, thereby helping Webber to finally enjoy a taste of the limelight as he scored his first win of the year.
Vettel's gearbox started overheating from the 13th lap. He was obliged to turn down his engine, short shift and use only the higher gears. Luckily, he had no trouble keeping second from Jenson Button of McLaren and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. It was another confirmation of just how strong the Renault-powered Red Bull RB7 has been all season.
