Fernando Alonso still leads the championship although he finished out of the podium in Melbourne.

The rain helped Jenson Button to offer a great show in Australia, taking his first win in Silver.

The excitement, partly brought by the occasionally drizzling skies of Melbourne, helped some to forget the boredom of Bahrain.

"For the fans it was a great race after a little bit of criticism, quite rightly, for the first race," said Michael Schumacher who finished 10th due to an early wing change and a long scrap with Jaime Alguersuari.

"But here, today, I think we made up for it a little bit," he added.

The race was all but a good one for Red Bull, which started from the front row. The team is yet to confirm the brake failure on Sebastian Vettel's RB6.
The young driver was disappointed, to say the least, even swearing on national television.

Local driver Mark Webber's had a scruffy race to ninth and had to apologies to Lewis Hamilton for a late collision. His only relief comes from a best lap in the race.

Lewis Hamilton openly criticized his team for applying a brilliant pit strategy (early call for slicks) on his winning teammate, but not on him. Team boss Martin Whitmarsh acknowledged that McLaren "made a team call which disadvantaged" the driver.
