Team Williams has acquired a minority share of the British company Automotive Hybrid Power (AHP), ahead of the introduction in formula one next year of energy-recovery KERS technology.

AHP, renamed Williams Hybrid Power and relocated to the Oxfordshire based team's Grove factory, develops high-energy composite flywheels.

The team said in a statement that the company's flywheel could be used for its KERS system next year, even though "a number of energy storage options" are being explored.

"We fully support the FIA's positive initiative in energy recovery systems which we hope will allow formula one to make some contribution to the development of an environmentally beneficial technology that could help to reduce the carbon emissions of vehicles," said Williams co-owner Patrick Head.
