Canadian Remy Audette won his first race of the 2011 Formula 2000 season in Virginia, U.S. Audette also broke a lap record during Friday’s private testing session.

It didn’t start all that great however. Audette spun during his first qualifying lap and could do no better than 11th on the starting grid. The downpours at the track served him well on Saturday. After a pit stop for rain tires, he made his way up the field to finish in fourth.

Nathan Morcom, from Australia, won this first race of the weekend from fourth on the grid. Robert La Rocca and Chris Livengood completed the podium.

The second qualifying session showcased his talent better and Audette took pole position before cruising to victory on Sunday, setting a new track record in the meantime. Rookie drivers Kyle Connery and Tim Minor completed the podium.

“I managed my race the way I wanted to. I could no longer see anyone in my mirrors and at one point had a nine second lead ahead of the second placed car. It was a perfect race,” said Audette, who leaves Virginia International on the championship lead.

The next races of the F2000 Championship Series will be held in Road Atlanta, on May 6 and 7.
