Mercedes will be integrating Facebook into the interface of the 2013 SL-Class and plans to make it standard equipment on all other 2013 models that will be introduced during the year. The question begs to be asked, though: Is it really necessary?
Mercedes’ Product Manager for Telematics Services assures us the popular social networking platform won’t distract drivers any more than a navigation system or the radio already does; in fact, once the car is running all features that require the user to enter text will be deactivated, and the app will also include pre-written posts drivers can publish on Facebook. We’ll be able to access Google and Yelp as well.
It took the Mercedes team six months to develop the app, with the help of Facebook.
