Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, an honorary member of the German manufacturer’s supervisory board and the man behind the 904 Carrera GTS and the 911, is celebrating his 75th birthday today.

Born in Stuttgart on December 11, 1935, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was initiated into the automotive world at an early age, spending much of his time in the design and development offices of his grandfather, Ferdinand Porsche. He attended the Waldorf School in Stuttgart as well as the Ulm School of Design before joining Porsche’s design team in 1958, demonstrating his talent with his 754 T7 car, a turning point both for his career and the brand.

In 1962, just four years after being hired, he became head of Porsche’s design department. The results were spectacular. The 901 (a.k.a the 911) was born, destined to become a legendary machine. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s talent was also put to good use in the motorsports world during the 60s, where he created, among others, the Type 804 Formula 1 and the 904 Carrera GTS, to this day one of the most admired cars in automotive circles.

The entire team here at Auto123.com would like to wish a very happy birthday to Mr Porsche!
