The McLaren P1 GTR will soon have a true competitor in the form of the all-new Ferrari FXX K, which will be unveiled this weekend during Finali Mondiali in Abu Dhabi ahead of its international track debut next year.
That doesn't mean this 1,036-horsepower prototype is certified for racing, however. In fact, only a few select customers will have the opportunity to participate in the development program over the next two years.
The phenomenal Ferrari FXX K combines a 848-horsepower V12 engine with a 188-horsepower electric motor and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The engine features new camshafts and exhaust valves, while the tailpipes have no muffler.
Through the HY-KERS hybrid system, drivers will have a choice of four modes:
- Qualify, for optimum performance over a limited number of laps;
- Long Run, for steady performance;
- Manual Boost, for maximum torque in spurts;
- Fast Charge, for faster battery charging.
The Ferrari FXX K rides on Pirelli P-Zero Slick tires (285/650R19 front, 345/725R20 rear) that are equipped with longitudinal, lateral and radial acceleration sensors as well as pressure and temperature sensors.
