The 2008 season has barely begun that already, fines and suspensions are flying.
Robby Gordon's car (Dodge No 7) sported an illegal nose at Daytona opening day inspection so the driver and the team owner were punished 100 points, crew chief Frank Kerr suspended six races and fines $100, 000. He will be under probation for the rest of the year.
The same happened in Nationwide as the No 5 Chevy driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. had an altered rear spoiler. Crew chief Chad Walter was fined $25,000 and suspended for six races. He is under probation until the end of the season as well. JR Motorsport will appeal the penalties that include 50 points for Earnhardt and 50 points for owner Rick Hendrick.
Five Nationwide teams including Kevin Harvick's No 77 and Rusty Wallace Inc's No 64 saw their crew chiefs suspended or six races and put on probation for the rest of the year because the cars failed to have the oil reservoir tank cover securely fastened during inspection. All crew chiefs were fined $ 15,000 each.
In the Craftsman series, Todd Bodine, winner of the opening race at Daytona, lost 25 points and his crew chief was suspended for the next four races and fined $10,000. Ron Hornaday's crew chief was also fined $ 5,000. Both were caught with technical infractions found before the race.
