Here's a trend: carmakers generate enormous hype around an exciting new vehicle, and then auction off the first copy to benefit a charitable organization. Dodge just did it with their first new Challenger, raising $400,000 or so for an organization called notMykid. Now, from the other side of the automotive spectrum, Bentley has done the same.

The famed automaker is re-entering the luxury coupe marketplace with its new Brooklands model. They're only building 550 of these exclusive, hand-made machines, and the first one was recently auctioned off to benefit the Naples Children and Education fund. Auctioning took place at the 2008 Naples Winter Wine Festival, which raised 14 million dollars for the charity.

$450,000 of that total was from Mr. and Mrs. Monte Ahuja- with a bid that won them the rights to own the first U.S.-delivered Bentley Brooklands coupe.

"We are truly heartened by Mr. and Mrs. Monte Ahuja's generous bid for the first Bentley Brooklands destined for the U.S. market," said Christophe Georges, Chief Operating Officer at Bentley Motors. "We are delighted to be associated with the Naples Winter Wine Festival recognizing its contribution to the Naples Children and Education Foundation which benefits so many deserving children in the south Florida community."

Mr. and Mrs. Monte Ahuja will take delivery of their new Brooklands this spring.
