Originally introduced at the New York Auto Show in April, the Hertz Rent-a-Racer Mustang is to be available for the 2007 model year. The retail

version of the car is called the Shelby GT, and it was shown to Ford dealers last week at dealer meetings in Las Vegas. The meetings were also attended by Ford CEO Bill Ford, as well as Ford's President of the Americas, Mark Fields.

Horsepower for the new Shelby GT was rated at 325, while special visual flare like hood pins and special side scoops set it apart from standard models. Volume numbers have yet to be finalized, though suggestions indicate the carmaker plans to produce the Shelby GT into the

thousands-of-units range. The Shelby GT will be finished at Carroll Shelby's shop in Las Vegas, alongside 500 GT-H models being produced for rental car giant Hertz.

The new model also stars in one of Fords "Bold Moves" mini-documentaries, which will be available at www.fordboldmoves.com the weekend of August 11, 2006.

Ford also showed dealerships the new Ford Fairlane and Lincoln MKS concepts at the Las Vegas meetings. The MKS is expected early in 2008, as is the Fairlane, although the name may be changed.
