Ford announced an investment of $700 million in its Oakville, Ontario assembly plant to increase production and meet consumer demand as Ford’s North American sales surge to pre-recession levels.

The Oakville plant currently builds the Ford Edge and Flex, as well as the Lincoln MKX and MKT. The next-generation Edge and MKX will also come out of there.

Work on the transformation of the facilities is already under way and should be completed by fall 2014. The investment will also help secure more than 2,800 jobs.

New vehicle sales in the U.S. are on the rise and even exceed projections. A similar phenomenon can be observed in Canada.
