It's called the IOSIS X, and you might say that it's just a little bit different looking from your average crossover vehicle. That's because it's a concept, and a special one at that. Designed to communicate a new kinetic design language, the IOSIS X was penned by Fords European designers. The X designation makes reference to the new crossover capabilities the company is exploring.

Martin Smith, Ford of Europe's Executive Design Director says "The IOSIS X is an exciting five-door sports-crossover that proves we can extend the boundaries of kinetic design into a niche market vehicle. It takes our 'energy in motion' philosophy even further and shows how different Ford cars will be in the future."

Some of the IOSIS X styling cues came from extreme outdoor sports equipment- the end result is a crisp and young appearance, Ford says. The exterior color scheme is inspired by snow and ice, and Smith adds "we're developing different textures and finishes to redefine a modern crossover interior."

The concept could be used to prepare the public for a future North American or European product offering and generate excitement about the new look, although the carmaker says it has no plans to produce a model just like it.
