Ford has expanded its high-performance pony car lineup with the debut of the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible. Revealed at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, the new drop-top pairs the performance of the Dark Horse SC coupe with open-air driving, making it the most powerful factory-built Mustang convertible in the brand’s history.
Powertrain of the 2027 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible
Under the hood sits the same supercharged 5.2L V8 engine found in the fastback SC model. Mated to a Tremec 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and a carbon-fibre drive shaft, the powerplant generates 795 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque. It represents Ford's first factory-built, ultra-high-performance convertible Mustang offering since 2013.
While the Dark Horse SC coupe is built to chase track lap times, Ford Racing engineers tuned the convertible for a refined grand touring experience. To maintain structural rigidity without adding unnecessary weight, the convertible uses the architecture of the Mustang GT 5.0L convertible, reinforced with a magnesium tower-to-tower brace across the engine bay.

It also features a uniquely tuned version of Ford’s MagneRide adaptive suspension. By using electro-magnets to adjust fluid viscosity in real time, the system delivers a smoother, more compliant ride for street driving while firming up handling when required.
Because of this variant’s grand touring mandate, the aggressive Track Pack, which includes carbon-fibre wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes, will remain exclusive to the coupe.

Design of the 2027 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible
Visually, the Dark Horse SC convertible retains the coupe's muscular styling, including large front air intakes, carbon-fibre front fascia band, prominent rear wing and rectangular exhaust tips.
To set the drop-top apart, Ford introduced a new signature exterior paint shade called Precision Purple, accompanied by distinct brake caliper colour choices. Inside, the cabin features a driver-focused layout finished in a Black Onyx and Space Gray leather combination, highlighted by carbon-fibre trim across the dashboard and centre console.
The power-operated fabric roof opens or closes at the push of a button.
