Ford Motor Co. has issued a safety recall affecting more than 160,000 vehicles across the United States and Canada, citing a severe electrical fault that could lead to a sudden loss of drive power, and cause critical safety equipment to fail.
The campaign covers 148,663 Ford Mustang sports cars from the 2024-2026 model-years in the U.S., as well as 11,343 units in Canada.
The problem
According to safety notices released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Transport Canada, a defect in the engine compartment wiring harness ground terminals can result in fatigue fractures over time.
If a ground terminal fails, it can trigger a sudden loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion, heightening the risk of a collision. Beyond that, the broken ground connections can cause several core components to stop functioning simultaneously, including the headlights, air conditioning, engine cooling fan and windshield washer pump.
The solution
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to have the engine compartment wiring harness ground terminals replaced, free of charge.

Compounding the automaker’s safety challenges, Ford last week issued a secondary recall campaign targeting a broader range of its latest models.
In this case, more than 10,000 vehicles in the U.S. and 3,221 brand-new 2026 vehicles in Canada are impacted. The recall targets certain Explorer, Bronco, Bronco Sport, Mustang and Ranger vehicles equipped with 1.5L or 2.3L EcoBoost engines.
Investigators determined that the engine piston domes may have been manufactured incorrectly, creating a defect that could cause pistons to crack over time. Such failure can lead to severe engine damage, a sudden loss of power to the wheels or even complete engine failure.
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine.
