Ford will invest US$200 million and add 450 new jobs at its Cleveland engine plant as it moves North American production of the 2.0L EcoBoost from Valencia, Spain, effective in late 2014.

The Spanish facility will continue to serve European markets.

Ford justifies its decision with the rising consumer demand for the award-winning 2.0L EcoBoost, and the need to reduce shipping costs.

The Cleveland plant currently employs about 1,300 people. It has built more than 500,000 3.5L EcoBoost engines since 2009, mainly for the F-150.

Ford will expand EcoBoost production to 1.6 million units in 2013 – nearly 100,000 above the previous target. These efficient powerplants will be available on more than 90% of North American nameplates this year, and 95% by 2015.
