We waited impatiently for it, and here it is: Ford has just unveiled the Ford Focus ST at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Soon to be introduced in over 40 markets and on six continents, the car will offer performance and sophistication at a low price, a recipe that has made cars like the Golf GTI a global success over the years.

A 2.0-litre 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine generating 247 horsepower and an impressive 265 lb.-ft of torque can be found under its hood. A six-speed manual gearbox, specially tuned to optimize its performance, will transmit power to the front wheels.

A sport suspension that lowers the Focus ST by 10 mm, a three-mode electronic stability program (dry, wet or snow), and several electronic devices all ensure that the car has exceptional behavior on the road, regardless of surface conditions.

Exterior design cues such as a roof spoiler, side skirts, an exhaust pipe positioned in the centre of the rear bumper and unique 18” wheels further distinguish the Focus ST from other versions of the vehicle.

Inside, the cockpit will include several sporty extras such as new pedals, a redesigned steering wheel, as well as Recaro seats that will see the driver sitting much lower.

In North America, the Focus ST will be only offered in a five-door hatchback version. Europeans, however, will have an additional choice of a wagon model.

Canadian prices have not been announced yet, and we'll have to wait a little longer to know when it will be introduced on North American soil.
